Well, this was really fun to do!
After taking a trip to the Walt Disney museum
this weekend I was really inspired to try playing with watercolors. I had seen Mitch Clem use watercolors in his comics with great results, so this was something I had thought about a bit before. With the push from Walt I bought some basic supplies and got to work.
Watercolors are really fun to work with! I still have a lot to learn but it was great to work with a new medium. I went for a pretty dark look in this comic because the scene was outdoors at night. I layered a lot of colors on top of each other, but I think it came out pretty cool. Inking on the watercolor paper is very different. It's a much rougher surface and I didn't get the line width variation I normally get with my pens, so that's something I'll have to play around with in the future.
Watercolors are a bit more involved than my normal techniques, so I might not be able to do this for every comic, but I'd certainly like to do more of it.
